The ageing process

AGEING FROM AN ARTIST'S PERSPECTIVE

Most of us would like to have healthy, glowing and youthful skin for as long as possible. However, with time, skin undergoes a number of predictable changes that affect its texture, volume and thickness. Indeed, skin and facial ageing reflect the combined effects of time, genetics and the environment on soft tissues, including on the skin, but also on hard tissues such as the bony structures. (16)

  • The quality of your skin decreases with the loss of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid (16,40,41)
  • The loss of facial fat, combined with gravity and repetitive muscle activity can result in the appearance of lines and wrinkles (16)
  • The loss of facial bone, muscle tone and a thinning skin can give your face a loose, sagging appearance with a less defined contour (16,42)

Hyaluronic acid is abundantly present in our skin and is one of the essential elements that is lost as we age. Due to its outstanding and unique ability to bind and retain water, it is invaluable for effectively restoring volume to the skin, as well as improving the skin’s hydration and texture. (40,41,43)

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers (injections of hyaluronic acid into the underlying layer of your skin, known as the dermis) remain one of the primary treatments for correction of wrinkles, folds and loss of volume that develop with age. They should not be confused with botulinum toxin, which is most often injected to stop muscle movements that result in wrinkles. It does not offer the plumping, smoothing effect of dermal fillers.(11,16,44)

Thanks to our long-term experience with hyaluronic acid, TEOXANE Laboratories has developed a new generation of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers specially designed to accommodate the dynamic and natural movements of your face. These fillers allow practitioners to more specifically respond to your needs by offering an immediate, long-lasting and naturally attractive appearance. (6)
